I hate you, Adobe.

oliviaisferosch:

I have the CS3 Master Collection, which I got a truly outstanding deal on. I don’t need everything in it, though, using Photoshop constantly, InDesign often, Dreamweaver very rarely, and the rest almost never. After using InDesign CS4 trials for a few months, I tried to upgrade it today, buying the downloadable upgrade from the site. I plugged in the number to upgrade it, and was prompted to put in my current serial number so I can do an upgrade check. After it failed to work despite holding the physical CS3 in my hands with the serial number on it, I called Customer Service.

Apparently you can’t upgrade individual products in the Master Collection and instead have to upgrade the whole Master Collection, which is outrageous and obnoxious (way to stick it to the people that spent a ton of money with you the first time around!). I already purchased the Lightroom 2 upgrade as it came out before CS4, I have little to no interest in Photoshop CS4 based on some horror stories I’ve heard, and have no use for Dreamweaver 4. The suggestion I’ve been offered is to buy InDesign CS4 standalone ($699). That makes sense. Such BS. Also BS because none of the InDesign 4 files that I made during the trial (i.e., A LOT) can be opened in CS3, and they are all things I can’t easily just replicate, so I am pretty much forced to upgrade everything it seems.

So annoyed. Sigh. Did not anticipate or want to spend $500-600 today for things I don’t need. Does anyone have ideas? Or a copy of standalone InDesign CS3 that they will never use again and can give me the serial number from?

I would just download it from www.piratebay.org
